"This is one of the many adventures, real and imagined, of my Polish grandmother and is part of a 30-year series.  Here, master artist Amedeo Modigliani, honors my grandmother by painting her portrait as she serves some of her famous home-cooked pierogies, traditional Polish dumplings filled with love." - Michael Andryc

The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night

"I based this painting on an anonymous folk song

from Middle English:

'Oh, the fox went out on a chilly night/

He prayed to the moon for to give him light/

He had many a mile to go that night/

Before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o/

Many a mile to go that night/Before he reached the town-o. . . ' "

Woman Removing

Her Crown of Thorns

Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 24"

"Among countless other people around the globe, I was inspired by the riveting testimony and courage of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in the Kavanaugh hearings for the United States Supreme Court nomination and approval in 2018.   In the painting, Dr. Ford has removed her glasses and is in the process of removing her symbolic 'crown of thorns.' By this simple act, she has freed herself and many women worldwide from a life of trauma and shame.  Meanwhile, a panel of her 'peers' continues to conduct 'business as usual.'   Dr. Ford has helped chart and champion an

upward  course for, not only the Women's Movement, but also for the fight for equal rights for all.  This painting is making its debut at the Fuller Lodge Art Center's "Mapmaker" Juried Group Exhibition." - M.A.

REWIND:  JFA 10-Year Anniversary Celebration

Cruising with Clark (My Grandmother and Clark Gable)

Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 60"

''You were so fine Clark Gable would have fell at your feet and laid his life on the line' - Bob Dylan, "Please Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight"  (Infidels)

"Grandma Anna Andryc has traveled with me as guardian angel, muse, and oftentimes, alter ego on my own life journey.  In this painting, I imagine her living it up on a grand finale cruise on a ship named in her honor, The Maid of Warsaw.  Maybe she is going on her dream cruise to visit Easter Island or is returning to her homeland; perhaps she bids us her farewell in this long-running series of more than 30 years.  Whatever her destination, let's hope her adventures continue to the rising moon and beyond."  - M.A.
